Contents | The course aims to provide students with: 1) the statistical-econometric tools necessary for the specification, estimation and selection of models that describe economic relationships; 2) the basic knowledge of the Stata econometric software necessary for estimating and testing economic relationships using real datasets. |
Textbook and course materials | Christiana E. Hilmer & Michael J. Hilmer ‘Practical Econometrics. Data collection, analysis, and application’ McGrawHill Education. |
Course objectives | This course is designed to address students to explore a dataset, write code to analyze relationships and to test hypotheses about some economic phenomenon. Working with data by using econometric software (i.e., Stata) is integrated into every aspect of the course including lecture, problem sets and exams. |
Prerequisites | Basic knowledge of statistics is necessary. |
Teaching methods | Lectures and empirical applications on economic and/or other kind of data using econometric software (Stata). Students will be encouraged to solve some pieces of homework throughout the course and to work in groups on empirical projects. |
Evaluation methods | The exam consists in individual and group assignments, and in the preparation and presentation of a final project. The exam is evaluated on a 30-point basis. The solution of the assignments can yield up to 20 points out of 30 and the final project can yield up to 10 points out of 30. |
